DOMA marks the topping out of The Store at 854 Hunter Street, Newcastle West. According to DOMA Group, the building is now the tallest in Newcastle and the tallest project in DOMA’s national portfolio. The milestone was marked on site on Friday 18 September, bringing together the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cr Gavin Morris, representatives from the Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation, builder BLOC, and the project’s wider team of consultants and contractors.
Approved in 2022, The Store is the fourth and final stage of the redevelopment of the former co-operative store site. Two residential towers rise 30 levels to the east and 28 levels to the west above a three-storey brick podium, forming a $250 million-plus mixed-use development that will bring 352 homes, commercial and retail space, and around an acre of wellness amenity to Newcastle’s West End on completion in early 2027.
According to DOMA, since construction began around two and a half years ago, the project has reached:
- 2,250 workers inducted on site
- 630,000 hours worked
- A structure standing 110 metres tall
- More than 20,000 cubic metres of concrete
- 2,500 tonnes of steel
- 45,000 square metres of facade and glazing
he project’s facade and glazing package totals 45,000 square metres, a significant share of the work. The Store reaches completion in early 2027.
“We’re very proud to be partnering with Micos on our largest, single-staged residential project to date. We began the journey back in 2023 well before construction commenced, and looking forward to continuing into 2026!”
